Chapter IV. A Shoot Is Not the Product

The Shoot Day

One day, a crew, and a call sheet that exists so nothing has to be decided twice. It is the most visible part of the job and the smallest part of what is handed over at the end of it.

What is handed over is the film, the cutdowns beneath it, the stills, the thumbnails, and a channel with six more weeks in hand. All of it scoped before the camera was set, because none of it can be salvaged afterwards.

The Delivery

A shoot is a day. A campaign is a quarter.Footage is raw material, and nobody buys raw material. What is bought is what the material was cut into. The film, and the cutdowns underneath it.The stills, the thumbnails, the verticals.A channel that still has something to post in six weeks, because those six weeks were planned before the camera was setrather than salvaged from whatever happened to be shot. The day is an input. The quarter is the product.
